Nigerian Police Confirm Arrest Of Three Alleged IPOB Members In Cross River, Recover Biafran Flag, Uniform, Explosives

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Sule Balarabe, who disclosed the information on Monday while parading the suspects, said they were arrested by the command between August and November.

The Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command has confirmed its operatives arrested three suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and recovered explosives from the suspects.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Sule Balarabe, who disclosed the information on Monday while parading the suspects, said they were arrested by the command between August and November.

Balarabe identified the suspected IPOB members as 29-year-old Richard Ukehad, 29-year-old Esther Asado and 44-year-old Isaac Ebebe.

According to the police commissioner, the suspects were arrested at their camp in Bebe III community in Obanliku Local Government Area of the state following an intelligence report.

He said that “On the strength of the information, the military, in collaboration with the anti-cultism/kidnapping squad, swung into action and the three were arrested.

"Two dane guns, a Biafra uniform, a Biafra flag, an axe, knife, four explosive devices, two suspected explosive chemicals, charms, a police beret and live cartridge were recovered at their camp."

The police boss said that the suspects would be charged to court immediately after the police concluded an investigation on the matter.

He further explained that two other persons were arrested for unlawful possession of firearms, while another suspect is in custody for armed robbery and kidnapping.

Balarabe noted that two AK-47 rifles and 200 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition were recovered by the command.

The police commissioner who vowed to rid the state of crime and criminality during and after the yuletide, warned politicians against any act that will compromise peace in Cross River.

He maintained that “The command therefore warns all political parties, their candidates and supporters, to play by the rules and abide by all the laws guiding the election process in the country, as infractions would not be tolerated."
