A 20-year-old man identified as Gabriel Orupou has been sentenced to 2 years in prison with an option of a fine of N100,000 for destroying a campaign billboard.

He was found guilty of criminal conspiracy on Monday by an area court in Bukuru, in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The campaign billboard that was destroyed by the convict bore campaign messages of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa.

Gabriel was arraigned for offences bordering on criminal conspiracy and mischief contrary to sections 59 and 313 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law, according to the Police First Information Report (PFIR).

Orupou was charged alongside three others who are at large.

He was sentenced on Monday but convicted last Friday by the Court after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

While pleading for mercy, Orupou said he was hired and paid N2,000 by the three others on the run – Musa, Bash and Danlami.
