BREAKING: PDP Chieftain, Driver Killed In Auto Crash On Their To Campaign For Atiku, Other In Delta Community

SaharaReporters learnt that their Toyota SUV had a head-on collision with a tanker along Ughelli/Patani Road.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and his driver have lost their lives on their way to the party's governorship campaign flag-off at Patani, headquarters of Patani Local Government Area of Delta state, SaharaReporters has gathered.

The PDP chieftain, who was identified as Joe Unuame from Akpere-Olomu community, and his driver were involved in a fatal accident on Wednesday.

SaharaReporters learnt that their Toyota SUV had a head-on collision with a tanker along Ughelli/Patani Road.

Our correspondent gathered that the driver died on the spot, while the PDP chieftain was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died.

It was however gathered that Unuame was an ardent supporter of Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa's presidential ticket and Sheriff Oborevwori's governorship ticket in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

PDP sources confirmed the death of the party chieftain and his driver, describing the accident as unfortunate.

They offered prayers for the souls of the deceased persons.

Meanwhile, the campaign train of the deputy senate president and Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege on Tuesday lost two members in a boat accident.

Three APC supporters are still missing while seven are on life support in an undisclosed hospital.

SaharaReporters learnt that the tragic incident occurred when the boats carrying APC members and supporters capsized on Warri River while returning from a ward-to-ward campaign at Okerenkoko and Ugborodo Ijaw and Itsekiri riverine communities in the Warri South West Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident, a statement released by Omo-Agege's campaign council director of communications and media strategy, Ima Niboro, disclosed that Omo-Agege has ordered the immediate suspension of the ward-to-ward campaign following the tragedy.
