Ex-President, Jonathan Meets Peter Obi Behind Closed Doors, Demands Credible Elections In 2023

Jonathan made this assertion on Friday when the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, met with him at his Yenagoa residence in Bayelsa State.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has stated that Nigeria is extremely divided, noting that the next Nigerian president must work towards uniting the nation.

Obi and Jonathan on Friday evening held meeting behind closed doors amid the LP candidate’s presidential campaign ahead of the 2023 elections.

According to Jonathan, who posted what he said at the meeting and pictures from the meeting on his verified Twitter handle, anyone who wins in2023 must have the first task to unite Nigeria.

The former president also commended the presidential candidate for taking the bold step to contest the elections next year outside the two major parties. Obi was accompanied by his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, and party stalwarts.

The statement reads; "Today I received in audience members of the Presidential Campaign Council of the @NgLabour led by its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

"I reiterated that to move Nigeria forward, we all must see it as our own country and believe in the unity of the nation.

  "Whoever becomes the next president must work towards uniting the nation. "I also stressed on the need for a credible election and urge the Labour Party and all other parties and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully.”
