Buhari said “the strongest possible action” must be taken against the remanded policemen who reportedly shot and killed Omobolanle Raheem.

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the policemen involved in the killing of a Lagos-based lawyer are brought to justice.

Buhari said “the strongest possible action” must be taken against the remanded policemen who reportedly shot and killed Omobolanle Raheem.

SaharaReporters had reported how Raheem was killed while she was returning home from a Christmas service at Ajah Under-bridge on Sunday.

Ajah is a popular area in Lagos, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

SaharaReporters had also reported that after killing the female lawyer, the trigger-happy police officer fled the scene with his colleagues before another set of policemen later came and took her remains to a mortuary in the Yaba area of the state.

The police on Monday said it had begun an investigation into the killing of Raheem.

Meanwhile, the suspect and his associates have been transferred to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department at Panti, Yaba for an Orderly Room trial.

However, in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Tuesday, the President said he was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the brutal killing.

He, therefore, directed the police authorities to take “the strongest possible action” against the culprits already held in detention.

According to the statement, the President assured the family of the deceased and members of the Nigerian Bar Association that justice would prevail.

President Buhari described the incident as a stark reminder of the recurring menace of the mishandling of weapons.

He also described it as a wakeup call to law enforcement agencies, including the police to ensure the full implementation of reforms instituted by the administration on the subject of weapons handling as well as the protection of the rights of citizens.

“In this hour of grief, the nation stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the NBA. I assure that justice will be done in this case,” he said.
