Four Nigerian Men Arrested For Burning Alleged Witch To Death In Adamawa

The suspects, Dogara James, 34, Emma Pious, 22, Irmiya Joshua, 22 and Sini James, 22, reportedly burnt Martha Mamman after accusing her of causing the death of six people using witchcraft in Mughule village in the Michika Local Government Area of the state.

The police have arrested four men for allegedly burning a woman to death in Adamawa state, Northeast Nigeria, SaharaReporters has learnt.

 

The suspects, Dogara James, 34, Emma Pious, 22, Irmiya Joshua, 22 and Sini James, 22, reportedly burnt Martha Mamman after accusing her of causing the death of six people using witchcraft in Mughule village in the Michika Local Government Area of the state.

 

The deceased woman, a mother of one, who was accused of killing six people was allegedly burnt to death by the suspects on December 4, 2022. 

 

Narrating the horrible incident at the police headquarters on Wednesday, the suspects admitted committing the heinous crime.

 

One of the suspects, Dogara James, said the deceased had confessed to killing three people while being interrogated by the ward head of Mughule.

He was quoted as saying, "A few days later, we stormed the residence of the deceased and started beating her as a result of which she confessed to causing the death of additional three people.

"While we were beating her, some young men came to the scene with petrol which it was used in burning late Martha."

The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspects were being investigated.

"The Commissioner of Police, S. K. Akande, had directed that the suspects be charged to court after investigation and cautioned the general public to desist from taking laws into their own hands," Nguroje said.
