APC Presidential Candidate, Tinubu Again Meets With Five, Aggrieved PDP Governors In London, Dangles ‘Offers’
December 30, 2022

According to the source, all other people present at Tinubu's residence were excused before the meeting began.

The camp of Bola Tinubu, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has reportedly reached an agreement with the members of the five disgruntled governors who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governors, known as G-5 Governors are Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.

It was gathered that the APC presidential candidate and the five governors met on Wednesday at the London residence of the APC presidential candidate.

Tinubu's supporters included Jigawa State Governor Badaru Abubakar and former Ekiti State Governor John Kayode Fayemi.

According to the source, all other people present at Tinubu's residence were excused before the meeting began.

“We have agreed to work together with the G5; the agreement rhythm with our desire to forge together a government of national unity.

“When the history of this political epoch is written, the names of Wike, Ortom, Makinde, Ugwuanyi and Ikpeazu will be written in gold for the courageous decision to place national interest above all other considerations,” a source told Daily Trust.

He also said that the governors were to remain in PDP and work for the actualisation of Tinubu’s presidency which would come with “several offers and benefits” while the governors were free to still pursue their other political interests.

Another source close to a sitting governor confirmed the meeting but added that they were still fine-tuning the modalities of the alliance for the benefit of all parties.

Meanwhile, Akin Osuntokun, the newly appointed Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, stated that he would be happy if the five disgruntled governors on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform eventually support his principal, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Osuntokun had stated this during an interview with SaharaReporters on Thursday morning.

The five governors are at the centre of the PDP's crisis. They have been calling for the resignation of the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, since former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as their party's flag bearer.

Since they had yet to return to the country, the five PDP governors were unavailable for comment last night. Wike recently ruled out backing Atiku, saying he would make his presidential candidate known to the public next month.

The governors have been deliberating between Tinubu and the Labour Party's (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.

However, it was yet certain whether all five governors would ultimately support Tinubu due to the peculiarities of their stake in the political machinations.

Ologunagba disclosed that everything was still in the realm of speculation but if anything untoward happens, the PDP is a “party that deals with rules and laws, we have our organs and processes and we follow our rules. The party takes action after due consideration of all the issues.

“So when those things happen, the constitution of the party will deal with them. We are a party that is very organised, united and concerned about the elections and Nigerian people, but that does not mean that if anybody, no matter how highly placed, goes contrary to the provision of the constitution of the party, the constitution will not kick in.”
