According to the statement, the CBN boss is not only a militant but an individual who is supposed to be behind bars if Nigeria were a working nation.

A civic group, The Nigeria Integrity Project, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Dr. Godwin Emefiele over controversies trailing his plan to redesign the nation’s currency.

The group in a statement by its coordinator, Zakari Hashim, accused Emefiele of meeting the naira stronger but doing everything possible to make it weaker by allegedly granting forex at cheaper rates to certain cartel, which in turn sells it at exorbitant rates.

According to the statement, the CBN boss is not only a militant but an individual who is supposed to be behind bars if Nigeria were a working nation that meant well for the safety of its citizens and the economy.

“The Nigeria Integrity Project frowns with absolute totality on the devastating development indicating the imprint of Mr Godwin Emefiele, as an accomplice of terrorism in Nigeria,” it read.

“While we consider the courage of the Nigeria’s secret police for exhibiting high-level patriotism and professionalism in unravelling such treasonable act from someone entrusted with the nation's holy patrimony, it is also a thing of national importance to call for rigorous investigation on the matter to enable us uncover the cartel behind terrorism in the country.

“For us in the Civil Society, we are not surprised that Mr Godwin Emefiele who doubles as the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria is indicted in such heinous crime or caught in the middle of the act, because his inhuman policies towards the middle class and the downtrodden have exposed him long before now. Only an accomplice of terrorism will make unavailable form A for foreign students who are at the threshold of kick-starting their studies.

“It is not a gainsaying that Emefiele met Naira stronger but he is doing everything possible to make it weaker by granting forex at a cheaper rate to certain cartel, which in turn sells it at exorbitant rate. The recent restriction policy on the limit of withdrawal an individual can make per day/week has totally exposed who the CBN Governor is and what he stand for. Only unenlightened person will still remain in doubt after series of these unholy actions and inactions by the man call Godwin Emefiele.

“Mr Godwin Emefiele is not only a militant but an individual who is supposed to be behind bars if at least Nigeria is a working nation that meant well for the safety of its citizens and the economy.”
