The Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, has blamed the shortage of diesel as the reason for the delay of the Abuja-Kaduna train movement on Monday.

This was stated in a release by Pascal Nnorli, Manager, Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), while apologising to the passengers

He explained that the delay was due to a shortage in the supply of diesel.

He stated that the AGO received fell short of the required standard and was outright rejected following a statutory laboratory test.

The manager said the test is carried out on all liquid “used on the rolling stock, locomotives inclusive, to ensure that the right specifications are utilised.”

The statement promised that operations would return to normal because management was on top of the situation.

SaharaReporters had reported that the Abuja-Kaduna train service resumed on December 5, 2022, after an eight-month hiatus due to a terrorist attack.

On March 28, 2022, 14 people were killed and at least 63 were abducted in Katari, Kaduna State.

After the release of seven captives in July, the final batch of 23 was released in October.

Meanwhile, members of the Organised Private Sector of Nigeria, OPSN, had described the lingering fuel scarcity and shortage of diesel in Nigeria as a shame.

The members include Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, National Association for Small & Medium Enterprise, NASME, National Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines & Agriculture, NACCIMA, and National Association of Small Scale Industrialist, NASSI.

They noted that while they support removal of the fuel subsidy regime in June 2023, as contained in the 2023 Appropriation Act, government should not spare any effort to complete the Turn Around Maintenance, TAM, of the nation’s four refineries before the June, 2023 date.
