One of the Nigerian Army officers who assaulted and brutalised a junior soldier has been identified as Second Lieutenant Kpum Whitney.

SaharaReporters had reported how Private Godiya was battered by Kpum and other officers.

It was learnt that the female soldier, Godiya was also detained for several hours in a cell.

According to a military source, Second Lieutenant Kpum slapped Private Godiya for allegedly disrespecting Lieutenant Ogbonnaya.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Nigerian Army Women Corps in Abuja.

“It happened during morning PT when Private Aba Joy didn’t go for morning PT, Private Godiya then booked her present. So when they were calling the names, they were looking for Aba Joy in the class and Aba Joy wasn’t in class. So we were asked to call her.

“They now said why would Private Godiya marked booked her present, so Aba Joy was asked to enter the class while Private Godiya would suffer for such action.

“That was when Aba Joy said she can’t allow her regular to suffer for her own crime. So Lieutenant Ogbonnaya wanted to slap Private Godiya, then Private Godiya told her not to try it, that she’s not a young soldier.

“So after fatigue, she was coming back when Second Lieutenant Kpum now held her and slapped her. She then slapped Kpum back. After she slapped her back, she was taken to the guardroom. Later, they tied her and started flogging her with stick.”

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters gathered that all the officers involved in the incident have been arrested by the military police.
