Police Inspector Shot In Ebonyi During Attack On APGA Governorship Candidate, Is Dead

A Nigerian police inspector, Ibrahim Gudu, who was shot on the chest during the attack on the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State, Professor Bernard Odoh on Thursday night, has reportedly died.

SaharaReporters had reported on Friday, that Odoh, a former Secretary to the State Government of Ebonyi and frontline Governorship Candidate of APGA was ambushed and attacked on Thursday night while returning from campaign in Ezzaegu, Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

It had been reported that the attack happened around 9:30pm at the Rest House axis of the Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway.

The gunmen who were suspected to be assassins had during the attack killed Odoh’s driver, a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer while Gudu and one other person in the convoy sustained varying degrees of injuries.

SaharaReporters also reported that Odoh survived the attack by whiskers, however, his vehicles were destroyed in the incident with his escort pilot burnt.

APGA had on Saturday announced that five persons were still missing after the attack. SaharaReporters could not independently ascertain whether the missing persons have been found as of Monday night.

However, the death of Gudu, who was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki after the vicious attack on Thursday, was announced to journalists by Director, Media and Publicity of Odoh campaign organisation, Charles Otu.

Otu regretted the unfortunate death of Gudu, praying for the repose of his soul.
