SaharaReporters gathered that the incident took place on Monday, February 8, 2023.

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have invaded Ugboanyim-Aniyi in Amagunze, an agrarian community in the Nkanu East local government area of Enugu State, killing one and injuring another.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident took place on Monday, February 8, 2023.

A community leader, Francis Nnamani who confirmed the attack to SaharaReporters on the telephone on Tuesday, said one of the victims who was rushed to the hospital after the attack “can only survive by the Grace of God”.

Nnamani gave the name of names of the victims as Anike Nwa-Ogbu and Emma Ogbu, noting that the victims are brothers.

He said, "While Anike Nwa-Ogbu has been confirmed dead, his brother, Emma Ogbu was critically butchered and has been rushed to the hospital.

"It will only take the mercy of God for him to survive," he said.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the residents of Ugboanyim-Aniyi have deserted the community as most of them fled to the neighbouring villages to seek safety while some have relocated to the state capital, Enugu.

"The traditional ruler of Okeani/Aniyi community, Igwe Elder Emmanuel, the President General, Chief Ifeanyi Nnaji and other well-meaning people of Amagunze are calling on His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and other relevant authority to come to the aid of our people.

"The activities of Fulani herdsmen have scared our people from going to farms as our people are being maimed and crops being destroyed," another resident of the community, Chief Nnamani Okoye told SaharaReporters.

Efforts made by SaharaReporters to speak to the state police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe were unsuccessful as he did not immediately answer calls made to his mobile line.
