Nigerian Veteran Journalists Hold Debate For Presidential Candidates, Sowore, Tinubu, Atiku, Peter Obi, Others

According to one of the organisers, Rudolf Okonkwo, the debate is geared towards ensuring that Nigerians are better informed on the economic and political policies of the presidential candidates.

 

Ahead of February 25 presidential and general elections, a group of Nigerian veteran journalists has concluded plans to organise a presidential debate for some presidential candidates.

According to one of the organisers, Rudolf Okonkwo, the debate is geared towards ensuring that Nigerians are better informed on the economic and political policies of the presidential candidates.

Okonkwo is a Nigerian-American journalist, who hosts the satirical show, “Dr. Damages Show” and teaches Post-Colonial African History at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, United States.

Some of the presidential candidates invited include; Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC); Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress; Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party; Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, New Nigeria People’s Party and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

Others are Social Democratic Party's Adewole Adebayo; Action Alliance's Hamza al-Mustapha; African Democratic Congress' Dumebi Kachikwu, and People's Redemption Party's Kola Abiola.

The virtual presidential debate is expected to hold on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 6.00pm Nigerian time with the theme "The Definitive Presidential Debate of 2023."

“We have assembled a group of non-partisan Nigerian journalists, Sonala Olumhense, Okey Ndibe, Farooq Kperogi, and Rudolf Okonkwo, with nearly 200 years of combined experience in the profession, to moderate the debate,” Rudolf said.

“The programme will be televised in and outside Nigeria and aired live on all social media platforms.”
