According to Adebanjo, there will be nothing like united Nigeria if Obi’s presidential bid fails this year.

A former Senator who represented Kaduna Central district, Shehu Sani, has condemned the remarks made by the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo that Nigerians should be prepared for a post-election crisis if the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi does not win the next election.

According to Adebanjo, there will be nothing like united Nigeria if Obi’s presidential bid fails this year.

While speaking at the celebration of the life and times of the late President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor, in Lagos on Wednesday, Adebanjo said Obiozor’s death came at a time Nigerians were in a battle to save the country from years of oppression.

He said, “Forget Nigeria if you don’t vote for Obi. I am not boasting and it is not a threat. When we say we must come together, is it by cheating one of us? Is that equity, justice and peace?”

Adebanjo also spoke after a meeting of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, SMBLF, in Abuja.

“They are making all sorts of devices to ensure that power remains in a particular part of the country. That’s why they are not even supporting the candidate of their own party.

“We will give it what it takes. It is either bend or break. If Obi does not win, forget a country called Nigeria.”

“If we lose this election, there will be no opportunity for a non-Christian, a non-northerner to be president again,” he had added.

However, Senator Sani on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday noted that Adebanjo has the right to market his preferred presidential candidate.

He, however, said that it is unbecoming for Adebanjo to threaten the breakup of the country if his candidate is not voted for.

The former lawmaker said even Peter Obi, Pa Adebanjo's candidate, might not support the comment.

"The respected elder statesman Chief Ayo Adebanjo has the right to market his preferred Presidential candidate; but threatening us on the breakup of our country if his candidate is not voted is unbecoming of him.

"I also don’t think even his candidate will subscribe to this," he wrote.
