Labour Party Demands Sack Of Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner For Calling Igbo ‘Immigrants’ In Lagos
February 14, 2023

The Labour Party questioned why the INEC commissioner should disenfranchise Nigerians by denying them their voter cards and referring to them as immigrants in their country.

The Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sack its Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, for calling Igbos (people of the South-East) in Lagos State immigrants.

Agbaje had reportedly in an interview with Channels TV given excuses on why residents in the Okota and Oshodi axis of Lagos mostly occupied by Igbos could not get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and referred to Igbos as immigrants in the state.

While reacting, the LP Campaign Council spokesperson in Enugu State, Kenneth Okonkwo, said that if the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, failed to sack Agbaje, it meant the electoral umpire had decided to rig the forthcoming 2023 general elections in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Labour Party questioned why the INEC commissioner should disenfranchise Nigerians by denying them their voter cards and referring to them as immigrants in their country.

“If Prof Mahmood Yakubu doesn't sack Olusegun Agbaje, the INEC REC of Lagos State, now, then Nigerians must realise that Prof Mahmood has decided to rig the election of 2023 in favour of APC.

“How can one explain that Agbaje said the Igbos in Lagos are immigrants in their own country and was openly denied their PVCs in Lagos, Nigeria, their own country, while in El-Rufai's Kaduna State, foreigners from Niger Republic, Chad etc were given PVCs and NINs in Nigeria.

“Nigerians have lost confidence in any election that will be conducted by this ethnic and confused bigot called Segun Agbaje who is obviously suffering from impaired reasoning like the Principal he is working for who has commanded his followers like Agbaje to fight and snatch power at all costs.

“Nigerians must rise up now to fight for a new Nigeria by insisting the right thing must be done starting with the firing of Olusegun Agbaje. We will march victoriously to the end. God bless Nigeria.”
