SaharaReporters had reported how three people were confirmed dead while dozens of others sustained injuries during a clash that erupted between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, has condemned in strong terms the gruesome murder of three people in Ilesa in Osun State.

SaharaReporters had reported how three people were confirmed dead while dozens of others sustained injuries during a clash that erupted between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was gathered that the party members last Friday evening began shooting and attacking one another with guns, cutlasses, clubs, knives, broken bottles, charms, and other weapons in Osun East Senatorial District.

During the clash, PDP members claimed that some armed political thugs from the APC camp attacked the residence of the father of the PDP candidate for the Ilesa East/Ilesa West/ Atakunmosa-East/Atakunmosa-West Federal Constituency, Olusanya Omirin, and the home of the father of the immediate past PDP chairman of the state, Sunday Bisi in Ilesha East local government area of the state.

The attackers, who were said to have rained live bullets on their victims' buildings, reportedly shot at and injured scores of people during the hour-long shooting spree.

Omirin's octogenarian father was said to have narrowly escaped, while Bisi's father was reportedly smuggled out of the house to save his life.

Reacting in a statement sent to SaharaReporters, Fadahunsi claimed those killed were his supporters, urging the authorities to apprehend the perpetrators.

“Fadahunsi said it is with a heavy heart that he received the news of the killing of these people due to a clash of interests ahead of the February 25 general election.

“The victims are: Rafiu quadri Abiodun of close ward one, his mother was a former woman leader in Iwara ward, Omidokun Elijah Alias baba ewe of Ayinrin ward 10, Gbenga Femi of Olorunsogo in a coma at Wesley ward 10.

“All from Ward 10 of Atakunmosa East local government in Hon.Sanya Omirin's ward,” the lawmaker said.

He added, “The recent killings in Ilesa have also further depleted the Ijesa land and her people who are known as peace-loving people but unfortunately Rt. Hon. Owoeye and his imported thugs want to win the election at all costs through back door without popularity.

“It is however necessary to again for security agencies to secure the lives and properties of Ijesa land ahead of the forthcoming election. It’s very sad that now that election is two days to hold some people in my constituency have been killed causing fair for others to vote on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, the APC refuted the claims, claiming that the PDP were responsible for always terrorising its members, and that one of its members had been killed by PDP thugs.

Sooko Lawal, the APC acting chairman insisted that “a member of the party at Ward Nine, Irojo, Ilesa East Local Government Council Area of the state, Ebenezer Alaro was killed by them and perpetrators of the act were said to be operating on the directive of Sanya Omirin, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Ijesa-South Federal Constituency.”
