An officer of the Nigerian Army has allegedly shot dead a member of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, identified as Akinlabi Akinnaso.
The deceased was killed on Sunday by a soldier deployed to maintain security at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Centre, Owena/Ayetoro in Idanre town.
He was said to have accompanied the newly elected winner of the House of Representatives for Ifedore/Idanre Federal Constituency, Festus Akingbaso, to receive a Certificate of Return from INEC, when he was killed by a bullet fired by the army officer.
It was gathered that Akinnaso’s corpse had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
INEC had earlier declared Akingbaso as winner of the federal constituency election.
He defeated the incumbent member, Tajudeen Adefisoye.
