Nigerians go to the polls to elect governors in 28 of the country’s 36 states today, as well as 993 lawmakers who will represent constituencies in the state houses of assembly.

For eight states namely Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun and Ondo, their governorship elections are off-season due to litigation and court judgements.

SaharaReporters learnt on Saturday that election materials were hijacked by some angry youths in Otuokpoti Ward II of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

It was learnt that the youths proceeded to burn the materials.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were forced to flee to the area due to the threats of violence.
