Earlier, an election monitoring group accused Sylva, one of President Muhammadu Buhari's ministers, of attempting to compromise electoral officials and manipulate the results from certain locations.

The Bayelsa State Government has criticised  Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum, for reportedly attempting to divert attention from his alleged manipulation of Saturday's House of Assembly election in his constituency.

Earlier, an election monitoring group accused Sylva, one of President Muhammadu Buhari's ministers, of attempting to compromise electoral officials and manipulate the results from certain locations.

A statement by Ayibaina Duba

Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, said instead of Mr. Sylva to address these accusations, he resorted to attacking Governor Douye Diri.

“The government challenged Sylva to explain his presence at an INEC collation center, why known APC thugs were intimidating voters suspected to be PDP supporters,” he said.

The government accused Sylva of "returning to his habitual terrain of election rigging and manipulation once the election results do not favor him and his party".

The government cautioned Sylva against inciting violence and stated that those responsible for violent conducts during elections would face justice.
