A former governor of Enugu State and senator representing Enugu East senatorial district at the National Assembly, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani, has lost his bid to return to the Senate.

He lost to the Labour Party candidate, Kelvin Chukwu.

Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party secured 48,701 votes to lose the election to Chukwu, who polled a total of 69,136 votes.

Chukwu is the younger brother of the slain Labour Party senatorial candidate, Oyibo Chukwu, who was assassinated on February 22 about 72 hours before the presidential and National Assembly elections.

With the result, the Labour Party has won two senatorial seats while the ruling PDP secured one senatorial seat which the LP is already challenging in court.
