The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Adamawa state, Hudu Yunusa, directed an election official, Hammajam Mohammed, to rig the governorship election in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, according to a leaked audio.
In the leaked audio obtained by SaharaReporters, Yunusa told Mohammed to do everything humanly possible to make Binani win. He told the electoral official that he was instructed by a higher authority to make Binani win.
The audio conversation goes thus: REC; is that our official from Gombi?
Mohammed: No sir, I'm from Fufore, sir.
REC: I've heard what happened, however, do whatever you can to help this woman (Binani), that's why I gave you an extra results sheet. Please, do just anything to make her scale through.
When contacted, Yunusa denied the allegation but attempted to negotiate with SaharaReporters’ correspondent to kill the report.
Meanwhile, collation has been temporarily suspended in Furore town where the incident occurred.
