Suspected Political Thugs Invade Office Of Nigerian Electoral Body, INEC In Abia

Some suspected political hoodlums on Sunday afternoon invaded the office of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

“Thugs have invaded our Obingwa Local Government Area office in Abia State. Security agencies have been alerted. The Commission is monitoring the situation and will issue a statement shortly,” INEC tweeted on Sunday.

This comes as the commission compiles results of governorship and state assembly elections from across the country.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, earlier won the governorship election in Ukwa East Local Government Area, according to the result declared by INEC.

Local Government Collation Officer, Professor Gozie Ihekwaba presented the result at the State INEC Collation Centre Umuahia.

PDP polled 2,329 out of the 7,761 total votes cast.

 

The Labour Party came second with 2,273 votes while APP polled 890 while the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA polled 646.

APC got 560 and ADC 13 votes.

The Collation Officer noted that there were infractions in some polling units and the results were cancelled.
