Arumodum died while being rushed to the hospital for medical treatment after being shot by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums while serving as an electoral official.

During Saturday's governorship and state assembly elections, an ad hoc staff member of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Arumodum Julius Akoi, was shot and killed by political thugs in Ward 7 Abua Central, Abua-Odual local government area of Rivers State, SaharaReporters has gathered.

Arumodum died while being rushed to the hospital for medical treatment after being shot by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums while serving as an electoral official.

The news of his demise has been widely shared by his family and friends on social media.

One of them, Living Olavokere Jamala, on Sunday described how Arumodum’s death made her bitter.

She wrote, “Since Yesterday, All that has been going through my mind is, what if it was OLA J who has been actively involved in the political process, what would have happened to his young and fragile family and loved ones?

“The outcome of the elections in my community, Emelego was the only information I had as at the time I arrived in Abua Central on the evening of yesterday but I immediately lost interest in the whole electoral process and most likely politics when the news of the gruesome murder of my Brother and friend, Mr Arumodum Julius Akoi , a deputy director with NOSDRA who was killed in line of duty as an INEC SPO by suspected political thugs filtered into my ears upon my arrival in Ayama from Odual yesterday.

“The last time I cried like I did yesterday after hearing of Boy T's death was when I lost my elder brother to the cold hands death. All Rivers people wanted from Buhari was a peaceful and transparent electoral process but the selfish Man from Daura couldn't guarantee us that.”

“I Hate Rivers State Brand Of Politics. Iyagba my Abuja most caring host, I wish I can wake up from this dream,” she added.

Wilfred Karibo was also another person who identified himself as a relative of the deceased.

He said, “My heart bleeds as I make this post. My younger and promising cousin's life Late Arumodum Julius Akoi's was cut short today by agents of political leaders of the major political parties in Abua/ Odual LGA while performing INEC ad hoc job as APO in a visionless Abua/ Odual LGA, a Rivers State without joy and Directionless Nigeria that has inflicted pains on her citizens, and has never given joy to the ODUALs and Emelego people in particular.

“Until his death, he was a staff of one of the federal agencies in Abuja and an ardent member of Abuja CHAPTER of the IYC. During my visit to Abuja early this year, we discussed about his marriage and the need to settle down but was surprised to hear that he is no more.”

“The pains inflicted on the family will not be in vain as the families of the politicians and their unborn generations will reap same. Rest in peace My cousin until we meet at the Lord's blossom,” he mourned.

Peli Adaotu also took to social media to mourn Arumodum’s death, adding that the deceased was killed a day before his birthday.

He wrote: “Arumodum Julius Akoi, you were a friend turned brother.

“Our paths crossed as far back as 2003, through Akebin Onyughel and Omagile Rokalke.

“You were always housing me whenever I visit Abuja... you always made me very comfortable. I never knew that my seeing you just 4 days ago will be the last.

“Oh, brotherly...it is unfortunate that it ended like this. You were such a loving soul and charitable. We will forever miss you and there will be no peace for those that masterminded your gruesome murder, while on elections duty!”

“Chai... today was to be your birthday... but here we are compelled to type "RIP" instead of "Happy Birthday". Mor', keel re'epho!” he added.
