The supporters of the PDP candidate who trooped in their numbers asked the INEC State Returning Officer to announce the results of Nkanu East which were suspended following over-voting and alleged manipulation of governorship results. They asked the electoral officer to declare their candidate as the winner of the election.

Hundreds of supporters of both the Labour Party governorship candidate, Chijioke Edeoga and the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Mbah on Monday protested at the Enugu State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission over the alleged irregularities in the results of Saturday's governorship election.

The supporters of the PDP candidate who trooped in their numbers asked the INEC State Returning Officer to announce the results of Nkanu East which were suspended following over-voting and alleged manipulation of governorship results. They asked the electoral officer to declare their candidate as the winner of the election.

They insisted that if INEC declared the results and announced their candidate, Mbah, as the winner, the Labour Party was free to go to court.

The PDP supporters are agitating that the INEC State Collation/Returning Officer and Resident Electoral Commission (REC) have no power to cancel results at this stage, adding that the outcomes have been formally collated and received at the INEC Headquarters in Enugu.

The PDP supporters added that the INEC State Returning Officer should announce the result as collated and any party not satisfied with it should go to the Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the results as the INEC National Chairman, Yakubu Mahmood did during the collation of the presidential election on February 25.

The PDP supporters accused Chief Nnia Nwodo, Prof. Barth Nnaji, and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo who are rooting for Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party of interference in the final announcement of the governorship results.

According to them, Mbah won the election. They, however, warned that any attempt to disrupt the announcement of the results may lead to anarchy.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party and Obidient supporters have insisted that the results of the election from Nkanu East should be cancelled on the ground that there were over-voting and irregularities in the results uploaded on the INEC     IReV.

SaharaReporters had reported that at the polling unit of the PDP candidate, Owo 001, a total of 256 voters were accredited as shown on the INEC portal while the results returned from the polling units for PDP which were uploaded on INEC IReV were 856 votes.

However, Labour Party supporters are insisting that votes that fail to meet the threshold of the poll requirements should be cancelled. They also asked that elections should be conducted in places where they did not hold.
