Nnamani’s defection came after he lost his bid to return to the Senate on the platform of PDP.

The Ebeano political group led by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu has joined the All Progressives Congress.

This comes barely 24 hours after its founder, former Enugu State Governor, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party.

Nnamani’s defection came after he lost his bid to return to the Senate on the platform of PDP.

The chairman of the Ebeano group, Chief Emmanuel Okwor, announced the decision of the group to join the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday afternoon in what looks like the group has abandoned one of its own, the governorship candidate of the PDP, Peter Mbah.

Okwor said the alliance with the APC “is to consolidate the partnership with President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to achieve good governance in the country”.

He said members of Ebeano political family across the country have been consulted and are in agreement with the alliance in the interest of the people.

The Ebeano chieftain stated that the interest and welfare of the group will be better served under the APC structure in the country.

The Ebeano political family established in 1999 has remained the dominant political force in Enugu State, until recently when Peter Obi's political hurricane stopped some of their members from winning elections in the state.

The group had consistently produced governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly, ministers as well as local government council officials in the state since its inception.

Senator Nnamani, who served as governor of Enugu State from 1999 to 2007, has served two terms at the Senate.
