Nigerian Senate Probes Buhari’s Rejection Of 19 Constitution Review Bills

Buhari had last week signed into law 16 constitution amendment bills out of the 35 bills transmitted to him by the ninth National Assembly.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has announced that the upper legislative chamber is set to probe and unravel the reason behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to assent to 19 constitution review bills out of the 35 bills the National Assembly forwarded to him.
It was gathered that President Buhari had last week signed into law 16 constitution amendment bills out of the 35 bills transmitted to him by the ninth National Assembly.
Disclosing the Senate’s constitution of the Senate committee to probe Buhari’s rejection of the 19 constitution amendment bills, in his remarks during resumption of plenary on Tuesday Senator Lawan commended President Buhari for assenting to the 16 constitution review bills, particularly the bills to guarantee the independence of state legislatures and the judiciary.
Senator Lawan however said the Senate would engage with the Presidency to understand why the remaining 19 bills were not assented to.
