SaharaReporters had reported that the collation of the governorship election results was suspended on Monday following allegations of over-voting and results manipulations in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state in favour of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Peter Mbah.

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission has stated that the collation of results for the governorship election conducted in Enugu State on Saturday will continue at 5pm on Wednesday.

SaharaReporters had reported that the collation of the governorship election results was suspended on Monday following allegations of over-voting and results manipulations in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state in favour of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Peter Mbah.

Labour Party candidate, Chijioke Edeoga through his party agent at the state collation Centre had on Sunday night rejected the results from the Nkanu East LGA over over-voting. According to him, elections conducted in the local government did not meet the electoral threshold, insisting that BVAS was not used for the election.

Following the allegations of results manipulations, the electoral body announced the suspension of the results collation on Monday, saying it took the decision after a meeting to review the elections.

According to INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, results from Nkanu East and Nsukka LGAs in Enugu State were suspended for further review.

In the same vein, INEC suspended the collation of results in Obingwa LGA of Abia State where he noted that its office was invaded by thugs on Sunday.

However, both supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate Peter Mbah and Labour Party candidate, Chijioke Edeoga have been keeping vigil at the INEC headquarters in Enugu, insisting that due process must be followed in declaring the winner of the election.

The duo of Edeoga and Mbah are in tight race as the figure separating the would-be winner is small.
