Chude was released on Friday afternoon after spending seven days in detention.

The detained supporter of the Labour Party, Nnamdi Chude, has been released from the Nigerian Police custody.

Chude was released on Friday afternoon after spending seven days in detention.

He was arrested by the Cyber Crime Unit of Interpol and taken to Abuja on the evening of Saturday, March 18, for allegedly likening the Governor Charles Soludo-led government to the administration of former governor, Chinwoke Mbadinuju.

While the State House of Assembly election was going on in the state on Saturday, Chude tweeted that thugs allegedly operating under the directive of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) - Governor Soludo's political party, were on a rampage, snatching ballot boxes and disrupting elections in 3'3 and Awada areas of the state.

After the tweet, he was reportedly arrested at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday by security operatives in Onitsha and swiftly taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka from where he was taken to Abuja.

On Friday, human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, tweeted that he searched round the police departments and units in Abuja for Chude.

The #RevolutionNow convener confirmed that he saw Chude, met with officers in charge of the case from the Cybercrime unit at the Interpol and also met with Chude's lawyers who assured him that his (Chude’s) release paperwork had been processed and he was set to be released.

"#FreeChude: We travelled round @PoliceNG departments and units today in search of @chude__Chude Nnamdi in Abuja. We finally found him at the FCIID cell in Abuja. I also spoke to his case officers from the Cybercrime unit at the @INTERPOL in Abuja.

"It is heartwarming that @chude is positively in high spirits. His lawyers have processed his release paperwork and he’s expected to be released today from @PoliceNG detention.

"It is a high profile conspiracy with the usual suspects involved at all levels to silence the young man!" Sowore had said.

Also, a Twitter user, Baron Chymaker @chymaker, later confirmed Chude's release from custody.
