Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the Delta North senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, has filed a petition before the election petitions tribunal to challenge the victory of Ned Nwoko of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ned Nwoko, businessman and former lawmaker, was declared winner of election in the Delta North senatorial district.

Josephine Okeakwa, returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who announced the results said Nwoko polled 92,514 votes from the nine LGAs of Delta north to defeat his closest rival, Kennedy Kamma of the Labour Party (LP) who polled 86,121 votes.

However, Peter Nwaoboshi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) who is currently in prison following his conviction for fraud, came third with 36,816 votes.
On Friday, Nwaoboshi filed a petition, challenging the outcome of the senatorial election, PUNCH reports.

This was made known by the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr Valentine Onojegheuo, while speaking in Asaba on Friday, noting that the party was on the move to reclaim its mandate.

Meanwhile, the National and state Assembly elections petition tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State, says it has received 25 petitions from eight senatorial and 17 House of Representatives candidates.

The tribunal secretary, Okedara Adejoke, told journalists that 15 motions ex parte were served, 12 were granted as prayed while three were struck out.
