Some of them claimed that personnel of other departments in the Ministry of Interior were paid their entitlements immediately after the elections.

Officers and men of Nigeria Prisons Service have expressed their displeasure with the alleged non-payment of their allowances for the recently held general elections.

Some of them claimed that personnel of other departments in the Ministry of Interior were paid their entitlements immediately after the elections.

The aggrieved officials also alleged the same thing was done during the 2019 general elections.

They added that they used their personal funds throughout the polls, with the expectation that they would be refunded.

The officers said the amount due to personnel is between N70,000 and N120,000, depending on the rank.

One of them said, “We have not been paid our allowances for the 2023 general elections. But those in other sister agencies have been paid. We do not know what is keeping our allowances back when others have been paid.

“Before the Presidential election of February 25th, 2023. All personnel from our sister agencies were paid their allowances from their respective offices. But until now, we haven't seen anything and nobody is saying anything about it. They collected our banking details in February but there's nothing.

“The money is with our department (Nigeria Correctional Service) but they don't want to release it.

“Nigerians should rescue correctional staff because we're in total bondage as the corruption and marginalization in the system are too much. Could you imagine, only corrections, someone will go for training and they'll not pay you training allowance, no promotion arrears, staff welfare is zero sir.

“Our harmonised salaries increment since November 2022 has been swept under the carpet without implementation and no one is saying anything about it. A lot more sir.”

Recently, SaharaReporters reported that the Nigeria Police Force refused to pay special duty allowances to its personnel who participated in the same polls.

Operatives of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have also lamented the non-payment of their allowances for the 2023 General Elections.
