No One Should Ascribe Ethnic, Religious Colouration To ‘Obidient’ Movement; It’s Not An Igbo Or Christian Agenda –Peter Obi

He noted that the Obidient Movement has been the arrowhead in the take-back Nigeria mission.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has cautioned that no one should give the Obidient Movement any ethnic and religious colouration.

Obi, who secured third place in the February 25 presidential election on Sunday night said that the movement which started after his emergence as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2022, is not about his tribe or religion nor is it an Igbo agenda or intended to be used to ‘Christianise’ Nigeria.

According to him, his role in Obidient Movement is that of a focal point while Nigeria remains a united and indivisible country.

He noted that the Obidient Movement has been the arrowhead in the take-back Nigeria mission.

There have been speculations from quarters that Obidient Movement is an Igbo agenda intended to be used to destabilise the unity and oneness of Nigeria, while Obi has been severally accused by some members of opposition political parties of bringing disintegration to the country with his style of politics.

Obi, however, said, “In the life of every nation, there is a turning point. For Nigeria, that time is now; a time to save Nigeria, save our democracy and give the Nigerian youths hope. The Obidient Movement has been the arrowhead in the take-back Nigeria mission.

“My role in the Movement is that of a Focal Point. As I've always stressed, Nigeria remains a secular state. As such, the movement is not about my tribe or my religion, and it is not an Igbo agenda or in any way, to Christianize Nigeria.

“My aspiration is for a new Nigeria, where the children of a nobody will become somebody. A nation anchored on national interests, and not sectional interests; where the entire youths from the six geopolitical zones will have a sense of belonging in the affairs of their country.

“No one should ascribe ethnic or religious colouration to the Obidient Movement. Nigeria is one and my ambition is to become the President of a United and Indivisible Nigeria.”
