SaharaReporters on Monday reported that Kamsi, who is a comedian, was abducted on Sunday after he made a video calling for the release of the detained IPOB leader and berating Igbo people for not clamouring for Kanu’s immediate release.

The police in Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria have rescued the 11-year-old boy, Kamsiyo Sunday, popularly known as Kamsi, who was abducted on Sunday morning after he called for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

SaharaReporters on Monday reported that Kamsi, who is a comedian, was abducted on Sunday after he made a video calling for the release of the detained IPOB leader and berating Igbo people for not clamouring for Kanu’s immediate release.

Kamsi was abducted in his house at Ukwu-Inyi in Ogrute in Enugu-Ezike community of Igbeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State by four armed men in masks, operating in a black pick-up truck.

It was speculated that Kamsi’s abductors were security agents, but his brother who is also his manager described the incident as a case of kidnap.

He said that the family went to the police station and Neighbourhood Watch office in their local government area but the security agencies denied knowledge of the incident.

But the Enugu State Police Command in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday said the boy had been rescued and reunited with his parents.

The police spokesperson said that Kamsi was rescued on Monday night at about 11 pm along MCC Road by Umanu Junction in Nsukka.

He was abandoned by his abductors after acting on credible information, the police said, commending residents for their support.

“Police Operatives serving in Nsukka Area Command of Enugu State Police Command, acting on credible information and with support from law-abiding citizens, on 27/03/2023 at about 11pm, found and rescued 10-year-old boy, Kamsiyo Sunday (popularly called "Kamsi"), at Nsukka, along MCC Road by Umanu Junction, where he was abandoned by his abductors due to pressure mounted on them.

“The lad was reported to have been abducted to an unknown destination, from his parents’ home at Ukwuinyi Ogrute Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, on 26/03/2023 at about 4pm. He has been reunited with his parents and family members.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, has ordered that the ongoing discreet investigation into the case be intensified to fish out and bring the perpetrators of the act to book. He notes that such a horrifying act of abduction of the minor, as shown in a viral video, is one that is highly intolerable and shall not be treated lightly,” the police spokesperson said.
