The state police command said on Tuesday that “Portable is not bigger than the law. We are going to use minimum force to arrest him.”

The Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State command, has said it has approached a court to get a warrant to arrest popular, controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, a.k.a Portable, after rejecting five police invitations.

The state police command said on Tuesday that “Portable is not bigger than the law. We are going to use minimum force to arrest him.”

SaharaReporters had on Tuesday reported that the singer, in a viral video on social media, resisted arrest by some police officers that stormed his restaurant in Ogun State, challenging them to know the reason for his arrest.

Portable was seen in the video accusing the police of illegal arrest.

”Show me your arrest warrant. Why did you come to my office to arrest people? You came and everyone was running. A yahoo boy sent police to arrest me just because I advised him to stop doing yahoo and vent into music.

”Are the police and Yahoo boys now working together? I don’t do Yahoo. I’m a musician. If you want to invite me to your station, you will invite me with money,” he had said.

According to one of the officers, they came to arrest the singer because of a petition against him. The policemen told him that he is not above the law and cannot dictate how they should operate.

In his response, the singer said, “I am a celebrity and I work for APC, you don’t have any right to walk into my office and tell me that I am under arrest.”

“I am a Federal Government liability. I work with the government too. I work with APC. Akoi Tinubu (Okay Tinubu). Nah we get Nigeria now. Nah we dey control Nigeria,” the singer added.

Confirming the Tuesday incident, the state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, explained that the singer had refused to honour the police invitation on five occasions.

“We have also sent an invitation to him through his father twice for questioning after a report was lodged against him. The police approached a court to get an arrest warrant for him following his refusal to honour the invitation. On sighting the police, Portable stripped himself naked so as to create a scene.

“Portable is not bigger than the law. We are going to use minimum force to arrest him,” he stated.
