Suspected herdsmen, on Thursday morning, reportedly attacked a public secondary school - Community Grammar School, Alaropo Nla in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the herders injured a yet-to-be-identified number of students and teachers during the invasion, according to Vanguard.

According to eyewitness accounts, over 20 herdsmen allegedly invaded the school with their cattle and injured some of the students and teachers.

Some of the students and teachers, including Mr Paul Olabode, were cut with swords and machetes, while many others suffered broken legs and hands.

According to the report, the herdsmen invaded the school farm with their cows to graze after the school had just finished its morning devotion and students were preparing to settle down in their classrooms to continue their second-term examination.

It was learnt that efforts by students and teachers to drive away the herdsmen were met with fierce opposition.

Mrs Grace Alamu, the school principal, confirmed the incident to Vanguard on the phone and said the incident had been reported to the police.

“I am on my way to the school. Policemen are coming to the school this morning,” she said.

Meanwhile, efforts made by SaharaReporters to reach the spokesman for the state police command, Adewale Osifeso, on the phone to get confirmation and possible update were not successful.

Osifeso did not answer calls made our correspondent and also did not reply to the text message sent to him.
