The police said they had directed intelligence units, operational commanders, divisional police officers and their supervisory area commanders to ensure heavy deployments of officers in uniforms on highways, airports, places of worship, and event centres within their area of responsibility.

The police in Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria, have assured the people of the state of the command’s readiness to perform its statutory responsibility of protecting the lives and property of the citizens, before and during Easter celebrations.

The police said they had directed intelligence units, operational commanders, divisional police officers and their supervisory area commanders to ensure heavy deployments of officers in uniforms on highways, airports, places of worship, and event centres within their area of responsibility.

The command in a statement issued on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Nyuroje, said the command in conjunction with other sister security agencies and all relevant stakeholders will do everything within its power to ensure security during the period.

The statement reads in part, "Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, hereby assures all residents of Adamawa state, particularly those who will be travelling or joining friends and relatives in public places for the Esther celebrations, of their safety and security during and after the Festive period.

"The CP similarly reassures those who will be plying roads, airports and tracks that proactive measures have been emplaced to ensure they arrive at their destinations devoid of the activities of rogue individuals and criminal elements.

"To achieve this, the command partners with sister security agencies and has ordered intelligence units, operational commanders, divisional police officers and their supervisory area commanders to ensure heavy deployments of officers in uniforms on highways, airports, places of worship, event centres, within their area of responsibility.

"The CP further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to adopt visibility policing by ensuring that those on routine duties are in uniform and their vehicles marked with the names of their divisions or units for proper identification by members of the public.

"All officers are to ensure strict compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) for their specific types of assignment while respect for fundamental rights of all persons is sacrosanct.”

"The police boss, therefore, felicitates with the Christian faithful as they celebrate Esther while urging them to emulate the character of Christ. He equally wishes the government and people of Adamawa a prosperous celebration," the statement added.
