Nigerian Police Detain Personnel Who Used Knife On Motorist For Refusing To Give N100 Bribe

SaharaReporters on Thursday reported that the police officers had stopped the victims to check their vehicle particulars, and then demanded N100 from the young men but they refused to part with the money, which angered the officers.

The police officers who were caught on camera brutalising and attempting to stab some young men over alleged refusal to give a bribe of N100 while on stop-and-search duty in Warri, Delta State have been identified and summoned to the Police headquarters in Abuja.

SaharaReporters on Thursday reported that the police officers had stopped the victims to check their vehicle particulars, and then demanded N100 from the young men but they refused to part with the money, which angered the officers.

From the video of the incident which went viral on the internet, the police officers subsequently wrestled one of the young men to the ground and unleashed violence on them.

One of the police officers in a viral video seen by SaharaReporters brought out a knife to stab the young man who was on the ground while another police officer attacked and beat the victim with a baton.

One officer positioned to shoot at the victim as he shouted, “You dey craze? Are you mad? I will kill you here.”
Reacting to the incident, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Delta State Police Command had been directed to fish out all the police officers.

Giving an update on the incident on Friday, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said that the officers had been identified and summoned to the Police headquarters, adding that the officer who brought out the knife during the incident is not a police officer but a Constabulary.

Edafe in a terse statement on his Twitter handle said, “The airing police officers have been identified and summoned to the Police headquarters. The officer who brought out that knife is not a police officer but a Constabulary. They have been detained, and their orderly room trial will commence today.”
