The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Sokoto South Senatorial District election.
Tambuwal polled 100,860 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Abdullahi Danbaba Dambuwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 95,884 votes.
INEC Returning Officer, Professor Abubakar Bagudu, who declared the result of the election after Saturday's supplementary poll, said, "Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of the PDP having scored the highest number of votes cast and having fulfilled the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected."
Tambuwal is the governor of Sokoto State. He was first elected governor in 2015 and was reelected in 2019. He was the Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015.
