Mr Ahanotu who was featured in a live interview session on Wednesday evening accused Mr Apapa of unlawfully hijacking the party’s leadership.

The Labour Party Deputy National Secretary, Kennedy Ahanotu has said the party performed poorly under the leadership of the suspended Acting National Chairman, Lamidi Apapa.

Mr Ahanotu who was featured in a live interview session on Wednesday evening accused Mr Apapa of unlawfully hijacking the party’s leadership.

He accused Apapa's faction of shunning the party’s National Working Committee before they announced themselves as its new leaders.

He said Apapa alongside five others were suspended for anti-party activities.

Ahanotu said, “It was clearly stated. And for him to be saying he rejected it, I wonder because when he hijacked the party, asked the man seated next to you if he ever sent an invitation to the entire NWC members to attend the meeting where they hijacked the party and distributed the position to themselves.

“I’m happy that today he was talking about invitation; that means he was wrong for not inviting the NWC members in the first place before he hijacked the party in the first place.

“Secondly, he said INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) has recognised him as the Chairman. We can browse it and check whose name is still on the INEC portal. It will sort out this.

“Thirdly, that NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) and TUC (Trade Union Congres) have stood behind Abure, that because they like Abure. It was because they believe in legitimacy and legality. This NEC that was convened yesterday was just planned in two days.

“In fact, for the past two weeks that this tussle has been going on, the NEC meeting was never planned in the last two weeks. To carry out the NEC meeting, you need to give at least 21 days’ notice to INEC. This letter for convening this NEC meeting yesterday was sent to INEC in March. It was almost a month that this message was sent to INEC.”

The Deputy National Secretary went on to accuse the suspended acting chairman of the party of failing to achieve any tangible results despite serving in various leadership roles within the party.

He continued: “And the deputy national chairman seated next to you, thank God, he has enumerated various positions he held in the party. I want you to ask him what has been his achievements all those years that he swore and held as the party’s chairman.

“It was under his control that Labour Party failed woefully, never fielded many candidates in the southwest and he is the person claimed as the deputy national chairman of the party. Ask him of his achievements when he was the party’s chairman in Oyo state. Did we even produce a councillor? Ask him. This is the same man that has come today to take advantage of whatever illicit package judgement made by some group of people.”
