Enugu Governor, Ugwuanyi Offers N5Million Reward For Information On Killers Of APGA Governorship Aspirant, Dons Udeh

SaharaReporters earlier reported that residents of Ozalla community took to the streets of Enugu State capital on Wednesday to protest against the gruesome murder of Udeh, whose decomposing body was found penultimate Tuesday at 9th Mile Bypass in the Udi local government area.

 

The Enugu State Government, on Wednesday, announced a cash reward of N5 million for any person or group that provides information to the Nigeria Police that would lead to the arrest of those who killed the former State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 general election, Chief Dons Udeh.

 

SaharaReporters earlier reported that residents of Ozalla community took to the streets of Enugu State capital on Wednesday to protest against the gruesome murder of Udeh, whose decomposing body was found penultimate Tuesday at 9th Mile Bypass in the Udi local government area.

 

Udeh was reported to have disappeared after he left his house in the Golf Estate on Saturday, April 22, 2023, around 4:30 pm.

 

However, his kinsmen on Wednesday matched through Okpara Square to the Government House, state police headquarters and state headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS), where they delivered their protest letters and demanded action against the killers.

 

Addressing the protesting residents at the Government House, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi announced a cash reward for any person or group that provides information that will lead to the arrest of Udeh's killers by the Nigeria Police.

He also approved the release of another N5 million - one million each, to the five communities in Ozalla, where Udeh hails from to assist them in their separate and collective investigations towards unravelling those behind the death of their son.

The governor commiserated with the family of the late Udeh and the entire people of Ozalla, describing Udeh’s death as painful and a great loss not only to his family and community but also to the entire state.

Governor Ugwuanyi, therefore, disclosed that the N5 million bounty will be made available to the Nigeria Police, Enugu State Command, while the other N5 million will be released to the five communities in Ozalla.

 

The governor disclosed that he had detailed the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, DCP Fidelis Ogarabe to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter to find the culprits and bring them to justice.

He said he would like to get to the root of the matter and ensure the killers are punished to serve as a deterrent to others and enhance the status of the state as one of the safest and most peaceful in the country.

 

Governor Ugwuanyi pointed out that the death of Udeh is even more painful to him and the state government than his community, revealing his closeness to the deceased.
