There were reports that he was seriously sick and in urgent need of medical help.

Former Super Eagles star Wilson Oruma has debunked reports about his ill health.

There were reports that he was seriously sick and in urgent need of medical help.

Oruma played a big role in Nigeria’s gold medal win at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He had 19 caps for Nigeria and played for some teams in Europe like Marseille, Nimes, Sochaux, and Guingamp.

However, he has been away from the public eye for some years. There was a report that he was seriously sick and needed help recently.

Recently, a viral video showed a man who looked like an older Oruma being administered intravenous fluid on a sick bed.

The video stirred mixed reactions on social media, with some fans sending prayers and well wishes.

The video that went viral over the weekend suggested the ex-Super Eagles midfielder was seriously ill and hospitalised. He had been put on a drip and was snoring on his sick bed.

There was no mention of his alleged ailment but it appeared that he was being taken care of with a urinary catheter.

Oruma reportedly lost about N2 billion after being duped by a pastor while trying to invest in the oil and gas sector.

In 2018, Oruma suffered an emotional disorder following the experience and it left him broke.

However, in a viral video seen by SaharaReporters seen by SaharaReporters on Wednesday morning, the 46-year-old said he was healthy.

While he appreciated people’s concern for him since the report, the ex-footballer said, “What’s up, my people, Much love. Thank you for everything — every support you have been giving to me.

“Thank you for the love you are showing to my family. We are healthy and sound. Thank you so much.

“I never knew people love so much like that. I appreciate and celebrate you all. Thank you so much.

“But as you can see, I am well and healthy. I’m good and look so cute. Today is the second of May and I made this video today to show that I am good and I have so much love for them. And I appreciate them so much.”

“One love, Naija," he added.

Oruma’s Glorious Days As Footballer

Oruma was part of the Nigeria under-17 team which won the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Championships. He was the captain of the team and the tournament's top goalscorer with six goals.

Oruma, who was seen by many as the natural replacement for Jay Jay Okocha when he joined the Super Eagles, played 19 times international matches over 11 years for Nigeria.

He was part of the team that participated in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where he scored in the only appearance he made in the tournament against Paraguay.

He also was part of the squad that won the Olympic gold medal in 1996, a year after his first appearance for Nigeria.

The midfielder was also a member of the Nigerian squad at the 2002 and 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, finishing both competitions in third place.
