How First Batch Of Stranded Nigerians Evacuated From Sudan Arrived In Abuja

The first batch of stranded Nigerians evacuated from warring Sudan through a Nigerian military jet C-130H arrived in Abuja on Wednesday night.

 

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) which made this known said the military jet C-130H which conveyed an estimated 376 evacuees arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at about 11:40 pm on Wednesday night.

 

The NiDCOM said on Twitter, "The first batch of Nigerians who fled war-torn Sudan arrived via military jet C13 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 2340HRS with an estimate of 376 evacuees."

 

Similarly, an Air Peace flight which brought over 270 Nigerian students from the Aswan Airport in Egypt landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja a few moments before the military jet conveying about 80 evacuees arrived.

 

Dabiri-Erewa, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouk; and the Director General of the National Management Emergency Agency (NEMA), Ahmed Mustapha, were at the airport to receive the students.

 

Farouk said the returnees would be given N100,000 each to enable them to settle in, adding that a full press briefing on the issues surrounding the evacuation had been scheduled for later on Thursday.

 

The NEMA DG further noted that four aircraft were expected to arrive on Thursday and that they would convey almost 400 persons, adding that Azman Air has joined Air Peace in the evacuation effort.
