Hadi Sirika, Nigeria’s aviation minister, has announced the reopening of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja’s runway for flight operations following the temporary closure of the airport to traffic on Sunday.

SaharaReporters reported on Sunday that an aircraft belonging to Max Air crash-landed at the airport after its tyre reportedly burst into flames.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Max Air confirmed the incident and said the aircraft experienced two tyre bursts after takeoff at Yola Airport and not one as earlier reported.

Giving an update via his Twitter page on Sunday, Sirika said that the aircraft had been towed off the runway.

“The Max Air aircraft has been towed away, and the runway has been swept, inspected and certified. The airport is now reopened for operations. Well done management and staff of Abuja. Thanks to all our customers for their patience and understanding. We regret the inconvenience,” Sirika said.
