Police Kill Two Alleged Armed Robbers, Arrest Four, Recover Explosives, Guns, Others In Anambra

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have killed two armed robbers terrorising some parts of the state and recovered two locally made explosives — one AK-47 rifle, nine live 7.62 ammunition, four AK-47 magazines, charms and other incriminating items.

 

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement on Tuesday said the armed robbers were killed during a gun battle on Sunday when police operative on routine patrol along Usmusiome Nkpor in the Idemili North local government area of the state intercepted the gang of four operating in a black Lexus SUV.

 

The police spokesperson said the armed robbers were arrested following credible information given to the police command by residents of the state. 

 

He added that there were many joint operations being carried out by security forces in the state, especially vigilantes aimed at sustaining and enhancing safety. 

 

“These joint operations yielded a major positive development on 7/5/2023 by 8:45 pm, the operatives while on routine patrol along Usmusiome Nkpor, Idemili North LGA intercepted a Gang of Four operating in an unregistered black Lexus SUV, recovered two locally made explosives, one Ak47 rifle, nine live 7.62 ammunition, four Ak47 magazines, Charms and other incriminating items. The operatives during the gun duel with the criminals demobilized two of the gang members, while two others escape. Efforts are already emplaced to arrest other fleeing gang members.”

 

Ikenga further stated that earlier around 4 pm on Sunday, police personnel at Azu Ogbunike in the Oyi Local Government Area of the state arrested another four suspected members of a gang of armed robbers/vandals.

 

According to him, the suspects are 51-year-old Nwusulor Fidelis, 44-year-old Iloegunam Amobi, 51-year-old Solomon Akpagu and 28-year-old Chidiebere Innocent. He said they were arrested while vandalising a truck suspected to have been stolen. 

 

“They all confessed to the crime and they are currently helping the police with information on other syndicate members that dispossess innocent drivers of their trucks before bringing them to their criminal hideout at Azu Ogbunike.

 

“Further details shall be communicated,” Ikenga said.
