The incident occurred at Mpape junction when a combined team of armed security operatives comprising personnel of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Directorate of Road Traffic Services otherwise known as VIO arrived at Mpape junction and drove away commercial vehicles picking up passengers in the area.

The situation became chaotic as drivers sped off in different directions to avoid arrest.

The driver of the vehicle with registration number GWA 868 SJ, upon sighting the gun-toting members of the task force, attempted to manoeuvre his way out of there by reversing but was not lucky enough.

It was at this point that the task force engaged him in a high-speed chase which eventually resulted in an accident.

He rammed his vehicle into an electricity pole which damaged his car. When the task force arrived at the scene of the accident, they descended on him and subsequently arrested him.

The operatives rebuffed the plea made by the driver that he sustained injuries in the accident.

An eyewitness who offered to rescue the driver was also assaulted by the task force.

But the operatives having realised their excesses for causing the accident later changed the narrative and accused the driver of damaging the electricity pole.

An eyewitness blamed the task force for their insensitive action towards the driver and for being responsible for the accident.

The eyewitness who spoke to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity said, "The task force came to Mpape junction this morning and they chased this driver with their vehicle until he crashed his vehicle.

“One of the policemen slapped him several times. They even arrested him and left his car. We even thought they would take him to the hospital for treatment but instead they started beating him."

There have been several complaints by Abuja residents about the alleged high-handedness and atrocities being committed by the dreaded task force which some of them have described as a nuisance.
