Some Nigerians have condemned the inhumane treatments being allegedly unleashed on visitors and petitioners at the gate of the Abuja headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
One of them, an aggrieved lawyer, noted on Thursday that visitors at the anti-graft commission’s headquarters in Abuja were treated more brutally than a common criminal and even worse than corporal punishment meted out for hardened criminals.
He lamented that visitors that include lawyers are subjected to harassments and other inhuman ordeals as they are made to queue up in the sun and rain for hours with little or no conducive shelter and other indecent conditions.
The lawyer lamented that “The inhumane treatment that has become a trend at the main gate of EFCC Headquarters, is not just incomparable, it's actually a big source of worry that requires drastic actions. It's worse than corporal punishment.”
He noted that what visitors go through at the gate is so awful to the extent that “many of those who were invited on various issues but got stuck at the gate actually preferred the commission's officials had come to arrest them so they would escape the inhuman treatment, rather than how they had voluntarily come to the place, only to be subjected to such cruelty that knows no bounds.
“The man at the helm of affairs of the commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, with respect sure needs to be called to order. If his commission is bereft of what to do, let him throw-in the towel and let a competent hand do the needful, or shut down the commission's headquarters.”
