Speaking with SaharaReporters, one of the former students leaders, Olasunkanmi Falola Ahmed, said that the result of the medical examination conduct after Azeez allegedly attacked them with over 50 cultists on Sunday April 7, 2023, came out in their (Olasunkanmi and colleagues) favour but the police are not only delaying investigation into the matter but trying to upturn it.

Some former leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State chapter have accused the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force of compromising a case of attack, assault and threat to their lives by Adeyemi Azeez, the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Student Matters.

The former NANS leaders alleged that it took the police three days to invite the governor’s aide and when he reported at the Eleweran Police Headquarters in Abeokuta, the police did not take his statement, rather, they treated him as a celebrity, adding that the on Wednesday, the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) merely asked them (the victims) to print the medical receipts and calculate the amount they spent while nothing had been done to Azeez.
The victims who said they had been invited to a meeting at 10am on Friday with the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, wrote to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), demanding justice as they expressed fear of possible being turned into the accused during the scheduled meeting.
“We are scared that they will upturn the event because the PPRO of the federal police force is not talking because this man is his friend and brother. They want to work in his (governor’s aide) favour,” Olasunkanmi said.
In the letter to the IGP signed by Olasunkanmi and two other former NANS leaders, the former students leaders said, “We are writing to you for your timely intervention on an issue that if not carefully treated and properly managed might lead to great chaos and Tussle for relevance or sustainability of power in the state.”
They recalled that they were “brutally attacked by over 50 cultist harmed with dangerous weapons led by Comrade Adeyemi Azeez Amoo, the Special Assistant to the Governor on student matters; he was accompanied by Damilola Simeon, Ogunronbi Gbemileke, Owoeye Femi, One comrade governor.
“Out of nowhere they charged at us where we were seated with dangerous weapons in attempt to take our lives, our Vehicle windshields were broken, our personal properties carted away, all through this period all we could hear was rants from The special Assistant to the Governor on student matter shouting “Kill them, Nothing will happen”.
“After the attack, we lodged a complaint at Ibara Police station. This isn’t the first time issue like this will occur in the state, however, as it stands, rather than appear humble and shield the sword and expect legal steps, words have been going around about the S.A claiming that the steps he made were not out of order and anyone that tries criticize him or submit opinion on this same issue, wherever they are he’d beat them to stupor and nothing will happen.
“However, these statement seem to be doing more harm than good to the issue on ground as quite a number of people are infuriated by the statement and are ready to dare him, and let everyone face the consequences once and for all, but we don’t want to have issues that will soil our names in this state; and troubles that will be generated from people who probably want to score cheap points and pretending to fight for us.
“As a matter of fact sir, we are no longer walking safely on the road because our life is no longer safe. We hereby call for the prosecution and investigation into this matter. We have empirical evidence as backed up with our submission and we hope you’ll look into this issue carefully and save the fate of Nigerian students in the state and ensure we have absolute peace in the state and the student constituency enjoy this newly anti cultism trend you’re about to introduce with the Governor.”
