Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu has called on Nigerian security agencies to fish out the killers of Dr Yakubu Sankey, the husband of Appeal Court Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey.
Sankey, a former Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, was reportedly murdered on Friday.
A source close to the family blamed the killing of the community leader on “a failed state and the nonchalant attitude of government toward the security of lives and property.”
The source had said the Senior Adviser, Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and Contestant to the seat of Bajju traditional Council “was not just killed, he was utterly, totally butchered".
Reacting to the development, the IPOB counsel, Ejiofor, described the gruesome killing of Sankey as shocking and called on security agencies to fish out the killers.
He said, "On a very sad note, we just confirmed the shocking news of the gruesome murder (in cold blood) of Dr Sankey - former DG of NIPPS and husband to Hon. Justice Jummai Sankey of the Court of Appeal.
"Recall that Hon. Justice Jummai Sankey was the erudite and incorruptible jurist who presided over the Panel of Justices of the Court of Appeal that delivered a landmark judgement in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s appeal and consequently, discharged Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and prohibited his further detention and trial.
"Those behind this dastardly and heinous crime must be fished out by the security agents and made to face the full wrath of the law."
Commiserating with the family of Justice Sankey, the IPOB counsel asked God to grant his soul eternal rest in his bosom.
"May the soul of Dr Sankey find everlasting rest in the bosom of his Almighty Maker, Amen," he said.
