Adekusibe, Man Canvassed Killing, Violent Attacks Against Igbos In Southwest Nigeria Arrested In Osun

In May, Adekusibe made remarks considered to be inflammatory on his Twitter handle, calling on the Yoruba community in Southwest Nigeria to violently attack Igbo people residing there and forcibly remove them from their land.

Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe, 28, who allegedly violated the social media policy on hate speech has been arrested by the Nigeria Police.

 

In May, Adekusibe made remarks considered to be inflammatory on his Twitter handle, calling on the Yoruba community in Southwest Nigeria to violently attack Igbo people residing there and forcibly remove them from their land.

 

Adekusibe claimed to dislike Igbo people without providing any valid reasons for his prejudice.

According to him, the Igbo community harbours animosity towards Yoruba people. He also accused Igbo people of being a violent group.

 

He wrote, “Let’s kill all the Igbos Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with passion. They are violent people. They a the worst. They hate us. Let’s hate them without holding back.”

 

A concerned Twitter user, in an attempt to draw attention to the matter, stated, “Let me provide the tweet and further details. If the Nigeria Department of State Services (@chude__) can take action against offenders, why can’t they do the same in this case? Please like and retweet until the relevant security agencies address the issue.”

 

In response, CSP Olumuyiwa Prince Adejobi acknowledged the report and informed that he had forwarded the complaint to the Lagos State Police Command, urging it to take appropriate measures.

 

He stated, “I have forwarded this matter to the Lagos State Command for necessary action. Thank you.”

 

On Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed the arrest of Adekusibe on his verified Twitter handle.

 

He wrote, "Today 15th June, 2023, the Osun Police Command has arrested one Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe 'm' 28years who violated the social media policy on hate speech. It could be recalled that, on 18th May, 2023, the suspect, Kehinde Adekusibe, on his tweeter handle, tweeted, "Let's kill all the Igbos Let's flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with passion. They are violent people. They a the worst.They hate us.

 

"Let's hate them without holding back.  Immediately, the Police Command received the report, Police detective from the Cyber crime section at SCID Osogbo swung into action, and through intelligence led investigation, the suspect was arrested at Ilesa where he hibernated.

 

"The suspect has confessed to the crime, and he will be charged to the court after the completion of the investigation.

 

"We have done what is needful on this matter. It can only take some times, every offence committed leaves a trace, and culprits will surely face d music.”

 

"Thanks to Osun State Police Command for its painstaking efforts on this singular case. Kudos. Ire o," he added.
