Nigerian general insurance company, Heirs Insurance has debunked the viral reports claiming that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had sealed off its headquarters office, a seven-floor structure on Ajose Ogun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

The company stated this in a statement made available on Monday, released by Ifesinachi Okpagu, the company Chief Marketing Officer explaining that the building in question was legally built by Cappa & D’Alberto and commissioned in 2021.

SaharaReporters had reported that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) had sealed off the seven-floor structure on Ajose Ogun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to the General Manager of LASBCA, Architect Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, this was done in a bid to avert a possible collapse.

Oki in a statement on Sunday said the structure which houses Heirs Insurance and UBA Bank is suspected to be exhibiting signs of structural failure as preliminary investigations revealed that some floor tiles on the fourth floor had popped off along the expansion joints of the building.

He said an on-the-spot assessment of the building further revealed that in an attempt to cover up the suspected structural defects of the building, the developer had already started renovation and remodelling works without carrying out proper tests to ascertain the cause of the defects.

Oki said the actions prompted the evacuation and seal-off order on the building pending further investigation.

Reacting to this, the Heirs Insurance Chief Marketing Officer said the buiding which housed their comany headquater was dully certfied as a legal buiding by the relevant institutions.

The company said, “Our attention has been drawn to highly inaccurate news reports in circulation regarding our headquarters, Heirs Towers, on Victoria Island, Lagos.

“This is to address the wrong information in circulation. We state as a matter of record: Heirs Towers was built by Cappa & D’Alberto and commissioned in 2021. Cappa & D’Alberto is one of Nigeria’s leading building contractors. Construction quality was overseen by IAA Associates, leading chartered structural engineers.

“Prior to occupation, the building received all appropriate certifications from Lagos State and other relevant regulators. Heirs Towers has been and is fit for occupancy. Our staff are all at work as normal in the office. Heirs Holdings Group does not compromise on quality, safety, or regulatory matters.”
