Fani-Kayode said Emefiele embarked on the policy to frustrate the presidential campaign of President Bola Tinubu, but that he has been thrown into shame.
Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has mocked the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele and his supporters regarding the controversial Naira redesign policy of the previous administration.
Fani-Kayode said Emefiele embarked on the policy to frustrate the presidential campaign of President Bola Tinubu, but that he has been thrown into shame.
On November 23, 2022, then-President Muhammadu Buhari alongside Emefiele unveiled new naira notes in denominations of N200, N500 and N1,000. Emefiele insisted that the old notes would cease to be legal tender from January 31, 2023.
Addressing journalists after the event, Emefiele insisted that the move was not targeted at anyone as there were speculations that the move was pushed by the cabal in the Presidency and targeted at preventing Tinubu, then-presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress from winning the February 25, 2023 election.
The policy caused Nigerians untold hardship due to the scarcity of naira notes with the CBN unable to meet the demand for new notes. The policy led to a cash crisis and long queues at banks and ATMs.
Fani-Kayode, who was the Director of Special Media Projects and Operations and New Media of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, on Tuesday, said Tinubu achieved more in three weeks than any other leader did within their first three weeks in office.
The former minister in a statement captioned “All In Three Weeks”, said that no leader or president in the history of Nigeria has ever effected the kind of positive changes and reforms and made the kind of appointments Tinubu made in three weeks.
He said, “Today where are those that deprived the Nigerian people of all their money and threw them into penury in the name of printing new notes just to stop Tinubu from emerging as President?
“Where are those that mocked and poured scorn on him on television, in the newspapers, on social media and in international forums and that consistently portrayed him as being shallow, superficial, dangerous, incompetent, unreliable and evil to the Nigerian people and the international community?
“Where are those that said he was too old to be President, that he takes hard drugs and that he is a drug baron, thief, international criminal and a mafia don?
“Where are those that said he cannot put a sentence together, that he talks hullabaloo and gibberish and that swearing him in would be tantamount to inviting the military to take power and lead to a coup?”
“I say shame on them all!” he added.
